Karen's Teaching Credentials
Karen Sprute-Francovich M.A,. is a Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor & Teacher Trainer, Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher (ERYT-500 hour level). She has practiced yoga for 35 years and taught for 20 years. In addition to her studio classes, she teaches at North Idaho College, leads workshops and retreats. Karen's teaching is informed by her long term study and practice of Asian Movement Arts and Bodywork Therapies. She is a Certified Instructor with the AOBTA, the certifying agency for Asian Bodywork Therapy and Oriental Medicine.
Since 1994 she has been a whole-hearted student of John Friend and Anusara Yoga. All hours with Karen count towards National Anusara Yoga Teacher Certification.Karen was a Phi Beta Kappa and Cum Laude graduate of the W.S.U. Honors program in Literature and History. She received her Masters in Education from Gonzaga University.
Anusara Yoga Teacher Training
The Garden Street Immersion and Teacher Training Program has been approved as a Yoga Alliance Registered School 200 hour level.
Those who successfully complete the Immersion (next Immersion begins Autumn 2008) and have a desire and aptitude for the teaching of Yoga will be able to apply to the Teacher Training Segment of Garden Street Yoga's Immersion and Teacher Training Program. This segment will focus on the Craft of teaching and will include qualities of a teacher, teaching methodology, principles of demonstration, observation, assisting /correcting, instruction, teaching styles, student teaching as well as observing and assisting in classes taught by others. We will also focus on inspirational poetry, how to weave philosophical inspiration into the Asana practice, what it means to take the seat of the teacher, and how to cultivate the Heart of a Teacher.

(In addition to the above 40 "contact hours" the Teacher Training will include 23 hours of outside work, observations, practice teaching and assignments.

In this 63 hour training, we will explore the art of teaching yoga in the Anusara style. We will cover essential teaching techniques, the therapeutic application of yoga principles and strategies for inspiring and effectively guiding students.
There will be a strong emphasis on finding and strengthening your unique "voice" as teacher as well as your ability to take the "seat of the teacher".
You will learn and practice the core teaching techniques used in Anusara classes, including observation, verbal instruction, physical adjustments, therapeutics, the art of the demo, sequencing and incorporating a heart theme into your classes.
This program is designed for both dedicated Anusara students who wish to begin teaching, as well as for teachers of other traditions of yoga who want to incorporate Anusara methods into their current teaching. Completion of the Immersion is required to enroll in the Anusara Yoga Teacher Training program. The Immersion and Teacher training together comes to a total of 300 hours.
