Garden Street is a dedicated Anusara Yoga studio.

Karen Sprute-Francovich opened the studio in the Autumn of 2001.

Anusara Yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga created by John Friend  which integrates the art of internal energetic movement with precise principles of  alignment, a high degree of mindfulness and spiritual intention  and a joyful expression of the spirit. This yoga emphasizes clarity of intention and alignment of body and mind with the intelligence of the Heart.  Anusara teaches both the physical and philosophical aspects of yoga, linking the great lineage and tradition of yoga with down to earth practical instruction in how to practice Yoga in a way that will create greater brightness of mind, vibrancy of body and openness of heart.

Studio classes, workshops, retreats, immersion programs and teacher trainings are all conceived and practiced with the highest principles and intentions of yoga in mind. We teach classes to accommodate every level of practitioner and believe that one does not not have to strong or flexible to begin the practice of Yoga.   The practice  of Anusara Yoga will, over time, create strength and flexibility, integrate  posture and open the heart for radiant health.

The studio is kept at approximately 75 degrees but, because the building is vintage and so is the Heating and Cooling System, the range varies.  The heating system is that wonderful, generous old steam radiator type of heat. The cooling system is fresh air through open windows, occasionally supplemented by a small AC unit.

Anusara is not a 'Hot' style of Yoga but recognizes that warmth is beneficial for muscle and connective tissue health.  We engage alignment and action in the body is a way that creates the necessary warming from the inside out.  Anusara works to build Tejas (inner radiance) and Tapas,  (the heat of transformation). We do not generally employ hot studio temperatures.  All the same, students do often get quite warm when practicing.  This is considered a benefit to the practice.

All the Yoga instructors at Garden Street teach Anusara Yoga and teach both the practical and spiritual aspects of yoga, addressing  the body, the mind and the heart of the student.
